By Zhang Hua, Xu Binao  17:21, November 9,2020  CHONGQING (CQNEWS) -Located at the foot of Bashan Mountain and on the bank of Yushui River, Chongqing Jiaotong University (CQJTU) has cultivated numerous talents from all sectors of the society, adhering to its motto of "Good Virtue for Long-term Growth and Universal Connection for Extensive Development". On the morning of November 7, the 2020, a joint meeting between the CQJTU Council and the Alumni Association and Foundation held the Open Ceremony of the One-Year Countdown to the 70th Anniversary at the Shuangfu Campus, remarking the beginning of the 70th Anniversary.

Seventy years of common belief for a shared future

Announcement on the 70th Anniversary of CQJTU (No. 1) was formally released

CQJTU was founded for the construction of Sichuan-Tibet Highway 70 years ago.

Since the foundation, CQJTU has been committed to cultivating talents in transportation in frastructure.

In its long history of development, students graduating from CQJTU have formed the common belief to contribute to the construction of a strong transportation network and to serve a progressive country.

CQJTU hereby welcome the alumni and celebrities to the 70th anniversary on November 7, 2021.

At the meeting, CQJTU formally released the Announcement of the 70th Anniversary of CQJTU (No. 1), inviting the alumni at home and abroad and celebrities from all walks to gather on November 7, 2021. In addition, Li Tianan, the Secretary of the Party Committee at CQJTU, announced that the One-Year Countdown to the 70th Anniversary has formally started which incurred thundering applause and common expectations for the 70th anniversary of the founding of the university.

It was learned that Southwest Jiaotong School, the predecessor university of CQJTU, was founded for the construction of the Sichuan-Tibet Highway in 1951, with Rang Mingde acting as the first president. In August of 1960, Chongqing Jiaotong College was established by integrating the School of Civil Engineering at Chengdu Engineering College, the School of Hydraulic Engineering at Wuhan College of Water Transportation Engineering, and the School of Metallurgy at Sichuan Metallurgy College and began enrolling undergraduates. In 1985, the college obtained the qualification to offer master programs. By 2006, the college obtained the qualification to offer doctoral programs and was renamed as Chongqing Jiaotong University.

In the past 70 years, with the mission of "cultivating talents in transportation, strengthening Western China, serving the people, and promoting national unity", talented alumni from CQJTU have been involved in projects such as the No.1 Project of the PRC in Qinghai-Tibet Plateau, the Three Gorges Dam, 10 bridge projects of the largest span in the world, the new transportation junction in Western China, and the Yangtze River golden waterway. The Green Aviation Technology Research Institute and the Applied Mathematics and Mechanics launched with the Academician Qian Weichang and obtained over 10 national prizes for progressin science and technology along with hundreds of provincial and ministerial science and technology prizes. CQJTU, with its principle to invigorate China through transportation, has made significant contributions to the realization of the Chinese dream.

"As an alumnus of CQJTU, I have been always paying close attention to the development of CQJTU, and I will do anything I can for the development of CQJTU". Zheng Jielian, a graduate of CQJTU in 1965 and academician of the Chinese Academy of Engineering, expressed his blessing for the upcoming 70th birthday of CQJTU and hoped that the university can cultivate more talent in transportation construction with both academic and ethic advantages for the next 70 years.

Guo Jianying, a graduate of CQJTU in 1996 and the president of the North American Alumni Association of CQJTU, on behalf of the North American alumni, sent his best wishes to CQJTU and expressed his gratitude for the opportunities to put what he has learned into service, to society.

Sinceits establishment, CQJTU has created generations of pioneers and founders for the highway construction in Western China in the early years of the foundation of the People's Republic of China and also supported numerous scientific and technological experts in modernizing transportation development, making important contributions to economic and social development especially the development of the transportation industry of the country.

At the ceremony, some enterprise representatives and outstanding alumni donated a total of 3.8 million yuan to CQJTU for its 70th anniversary.

The open ceremony of Global Transmission of the CQJTU flag for the 70th Anniversary was officially initiated by Tang Boming. As the president of CQJTU, he passed the flag to the first stop: The Chongqing Alumni Association. It is believed that the flag will cross the mountains and seas to convey the spirit of the university.

Located at the foot of Bashan Mountain and on the bank of Yushui River, Chongqing Jiaotong University (CQJTU) has cultivated numerous talent for all sectors of the society, adhering to its motto of "Good Virtue for Long-term Growth and Universal Connection for Extensive Development". Chongqing Jiaotong University will celebrate its 70th anniversary on November 7, 2021. First of all, we would like to express our heart felt thanks and high respects to the leaders at all levels, alumni athome and abroad, and guests and friends from all walks of society who have long cared for and supported the development of the university.

CQJTU was founded for the construction of Sichuan-Tibet highway 70 years ago. Looking back in history, CQJTU was founded in the name of Southwest Jiaotong School for the construction of the Sichuan-Tibet Highway and development of Southwest China under the support of Deng Xiaoping in 1951. Founding members represented by the first president Rang Mingde were committed to practising the great "Two-Highway Spirit" with their wisdom and enthusiasm. In 1960, Chongqing Jiaotong College was established by integrating the Department of Civil Engineering of Chengdu Engineering College, the Department of Hydraulic Engineering of Wuhan College of  Water Transportation Engineering, the Department of Metallurgy of Sichuan Metallurgy College and began enrolling undergraduates. In 1972, the College was merged with the Chongqing College of Architecture and Engineering. In 1979, Chongqing Jiaotong College was restored. In 1985, the College obtained the qualification to offer master programs and started to offer postgraduate education courses. In 1999, Chongqing River Transport College was integrated. In 2000, the college was put under the administration of the Chongqing Municipal People's Government by the Ministry of Transport of the People's Republic of China. Since then, the college had been jointly administered by the Ministry of Transport and the Chongqing Municipal People's Government. In 2006, the College obtained the qualification to offer doctoral programs and was renamed as Chongqing Jiaotong University. In 2011, the Shuangfu Campus was put into use. In the new era, the University has built 4 doctororal stations for first-level disciplines, 3 national scientific research platforms such as the National Key Laboratory for Bridge and Tunnel Projects in Mountainous Areas and the National Inland Waterway Regulation Engineering Technology Research Center and has covered all majors in waterway, road and airline transportation. In addition, the engineering program at CQJTU was listed in the top 1% of ESI and 8 majors were listed as national first-class majors. After several name changes in the past 70 years, CQJTU with its inheritance to sound education concepts and the sense of mission, has become a multi-disciplinary university with distinctive industrial features and prominent educational advantages. In the future, CQJTU will continue to develop itself to serve the country better adhering to its motto.

Since the foundation, CQJTU has been committed to cultivating talent in transportation infrastructure. In the past 70 years, with the mission of " cultivating talent in transportation, strengthening Western China, serving the people and promoting national unity", members of CQJTU has fully performed preservation, practice and innovation on the great "Two-Highway"spirit and made significant contributions to the development of the country. Since its establishment, CQJTU has created generations of pioneers and founders for the highway construction in Western China in the early years of the foundation of the People's Republic of China, and also supported numerous scientific and technological experts in modern transportation development. Over 200,000 students from CQJTU have made important contributions to the economic and social development especially the development of the transportation industry of the country. We would like to look back at the history of the university, fully demonstrate the university spirit and appearance, and jointly plan for a better future through a memorial. The 70th anniversary of the foundation of the university will provide a platform for a prosperous development and realization of the great rejuvenation of the Chinese nation responding to the significant needs of national strategies and industries.

CQJTU hereby would like to welcome the alumni and the celebrities to the 70th anniversary being held on November 7, 2021. The alumni at home and abroad are warmly invited to return to CQJTU to share memories about their school years and to share thoughts on development.
