Chongqing Jiaotong University Participated in the 2020 Conference & Presidents’ Forum of BRAUIC

On the afternoon of October 30, 2020, the 2020 Conference & Presidents’ Forum of  BRAUIC was held at Beijing University Department of Civil Engineering and Architecture. Utilizing online and offline attendance, the forum drew 47 universities from nearly 20 countries and regions. Yi Zhijian, Vice President of Chongqing Jiaotong University, heads of  the International Office, College of Architecture and Urban Planning of Chongqing Jiaotong University, and representatives of teachers and students participated in the forum online.

The Forum was divided into three parts. The first part was the 2020 BRAUIC Conference presided over by Prof. Anne-Catherine Guitard, Acting Chairman of the 2020 BRAUIC Conference, Vice President for Development & Transformation, JUNIA, Prof. Thierry Occre, President of  JUNIA, Mr. Jiang Zeting, Chairman of Administration Committee of  BUCEA, Mr. Yu Haiyong, Deputy Director General of the Foreign Affairs Office of the People’s Government of  Beijing Municipality, Mr. Huang Kan, Deputy Director-General of the Beijing Municipal Education Committee, and Mr. Salvatore Castiglione, Vice-President of solidarity and international relations at the Regional COUNCIL Région Hauts-de-France delivered speeches respectively. Prof. Zhang Ailin, Chairman of BRAUIC and President of BUCEA, gave the report on the 2020 Work & the 2021 Work Plan.

The second part of the Forum was the Presidents' Forum presided over by Zhang Ailin. More than 10 presidents from China, France, Russia, the United Kingdom, Armenia, Poland and other countries focused on the theme of "Building A Community of Architectural Education Along the Belt and Road". They exchanged their opinions and delivered speeches.


 

The third part of the Forum was the awarding session of 2020 BRAUIC University Student Architecture and Structural Design Competition. The 4 entries from our students stood out from 250 works from 18 Chinese and foreign universities. Among them, one was awarded first prize in architectural design, another student second prize in the structural design, and two honorable mentions, entitling Chongqing Jiaotong University at the top among all participating universities in the number and quality of prizes. In addition, we also won the "Excellent Organization Prize" and 5 supervisors including Wen Quan, Xu Ke, Dong Lili, Zhou Zhixiang, and Zhou Shuixing won the "Outstanding Supervisor Prize". Prof. Zhang Jie, National Master of Engineering Survey and Design and Dean of the School of Architecture and Urban Planning, BUCEA, commented on the first prize work "Floating Library—A Future Waterfront Library Carrying History, Time and Space" from our university. Professor Zhang Jie regarded the work as an extraordinary one as "the work deeply explored the inexhaustible local context and adapted to the functional space requirements of modern libraries in a novel form". Vice President Yi Zhijian had a group photo taken with the student representatives and supervisors of the first prize winners from the College of Architecture and Urban Planning of Chongqing Jiaotong University and encouraged the winners to continue their efforts and strive to achieve better results.


 

 

BRAUIC was founded in 2017 by Beijing University of  Civil Engineering and Architecture. Now there are 64 member units from 27 countries, including China, Russia, Poland, France, the United States, Britain, Armenia and Bulgaria. Chongqing Jiaotong University joined BRAUIC in Moscow, Russia in 2019 and this is the second time our university has participated in the Conference and Presidents' Forum.
