Live Up to the Era & Youth - Opening Ceremony Held by the University for Class of 2022 Students

Live Up to the Era & Youth! This autumn, Chongqing Jiaotong University (CQJTU) welcomed Grade 2022 students from all over China to start a new journey in their youth and life! On the afternoon of September 16, 2022, the Opening Ceremony for Grade 2022 Students of Chongqing Jiaotong University was held at Huiyuan Academic Exchange Center at the Nan'an Campus.

More than 300 people attended the ceremony, including all Party and government affair leaders of the University, principal representatives of the Party and Government Affairs Office, Publicity Department, Organization Department, Education Work Department, Student Affairs Department, Personnel Office, Graduate School, Academic Affairs Office, Admission and Employment Office, International Office, University CCYL Committee, Science City College, and Engineering Training Center, principal party and government officials, teacher representatives, and all the counselors of new students in all teaching departments. The doctoral, postgraduate, and undergraduate students of Grade 2022 attended the ceremony online.

Vice President Huang Chengfeng presided over the opening ceremony, which was officially started with the solemn national anthem. The promotion film of Chongqing Jiaotong University said that "Chongqing Jiaotong University is located in the east of Chongqing where verdant mountains tower aloft and vast rivers zigzag away; started from the construction of the Sichuan-Tibet Highway, it never forgets to work hard ...” was played during the ceremony, which was very impressive and inspiring. Over the past 71 years, generations of CQJTU Members have adhered to the hard-working spirit showed in the construction of the Sichuan-Tibet and Qinghai-Tibet Highways and forged the university motto of "Good Virtue for Long-term Growth and Universal Connection for Extensive Development", and is on the grand new journey to create a high-level university with characteristics.

"Due to such persistence, we enter the beautiful campus of Chongqing Jiaotong University, with a common name of CQJTU Members!" At the Opening Ceremony, Gan Chunhua, a representative of the Grade 2022 students, majoring in Transportation at the College of Traffic & Transportation, said: “youth, like early spring, the rising sun, blossoms, and a new blade, is the most precious period of life. I will keep in mind the university motto of "Good Virtue for Long-term Growth and Universal Connection for Extensive Development"; I will work hard, think hard, strive hard and march forward courageously at the university, a stage for purchasing dreams and with the fertile soil of education,I will ride the wind and break the waves at the campus with strong learning atmosphere; I will draw on the strength of advancing from the glorious development course, intermingle the individual ideal with the national dream; I will run hard on the track of youth, show our true self, and create new brilliance together!”

Teacher Representative, Professor Li Wenjie of the College of River and Ocean Engineering, an experienced  and Young Science and Technology Innovation Leader of the Ministry of Transport, encouraged all Grade 2022 students to develop skills and strive for innovation during study, demonstrate values and model souls in social services, form character in youth, closely link self-value with the mission of the state, integrate own development into the overall national development, shoulder the great mission of national rejuvenation, uphold self-cultivation, seek true knowledge, develop real skills at Chongqing Jiaotong University, join hands to explore the truth of science, the way of engineering, the goodness of humanity, the beauty of art, and forge ahead in the great era!

On behalf of the faculty, Li Tian’an, Party Secretary of the Party Committee of the University, extended awarm welcome to the new students and expressed heartfelt thanks to the teachers and parents who worked hard to cultivate them. He delivered the first ideological and political education class to all Grade 2022 students in their university years under the title of "Live Up to the Era & Youth and Be the Ambitious, Aspiring and Confident Young People of the New Era".

Secretary Li looked back on the history of Chongqing Jiaotong University and said: “You, as young people in the new era, are in the prime of your lives. Your golden period of life perfectly coincides with the implementation period of the two strategies for 2035 and 2050, and your dream of living a blooming youth and the dream of building a strong country are closely linked. General Secretary Xi Jinping pointed out that living in a prosperous era and shouldering heavy tasks and responsibilities, the Chinese youth enjoy a vast platform to show talents and a bright future to fulfill dreams!"

"Youth is a beautiful annotation of time and the university is the warm and fertile soil for growth". Secretary Li put forward three hopes and requirements for all Grade 2022 new students. First, they should live up to the era and be ambitious young people of the new era. Secretary Li led the new students to review the story of generations of CQJTU Members who went through all kinds of difficulties and risks, courageously marched forward, and worked hard in the course of the construction of the motherland. He hopes that the new students will draw wisdom from the founding predecessors and outstanding schoolfellows, and strive to become new talents of the era who can shoulder the task of national rejuvenation with the mind of the "great nation". Second, they should live up to the mission and be aspiring young people of the new era. Secretary Li inspired new students with the story that Yi Zhijian Team of the University has devoted to "Ecological Restoration Technology of Desert" and made a series of phased achievements with the spirit of persistence. He hopes that they would shape the spirit of "conquering every challenge" and grow up to be new talents thinking independently and daring to face challenges. Third, they should live up to youth and be confident young people of the new era. They should be fully confident and own strong skills and quality. Secretary Li started from the excellent deeds of the "endless bridge" student team at the university, and hopes that the students will listen to each lesson well in class, make good use of each book in the library, do a good job in every experiment in the laboratory, get the experience in the discipline competition and social practices, maintain the strong physique and the healthy life style, and grow up to be new talents with all around development of moral, intellectual, physical, aesthetics and labor education.
